Oscar winner Philip Seymour Hoffman reportedly has been offered the role of Plutarch Heavensbee in the upcoming Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Entertainment Weekly notes.

In the book series, the shrewd Heavensbee plays a crucial role after he becomes the new Gamekeeper, succeeding Seneca Crane (Wes Bentley). Lionsgate had no comment on the offer to Hoffman, who just finished a widely praised run on Broadway as Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman.

Back in April, director Francis Lawrence (no relation to the film's star Jennifer Lawrence) signed to helm Catching Fire, after The Hunger Games director Gary Ross declined the gig due to tight scheduling. Filming for Catching Fire is set to begin later this fall, and the movie is scheduled to reach theaters in November of 2013.
