Bouwer Bosch’s manifesto – “Ek sing wat ek nie kan sê nie”- gradually lulled last night’s Puma Real Music Wednesday audience into romantic introspection soon after the musician traded his calm guitar tuning for a heart-melting serenade.

The Potchefstroom-born vocalist and Straatligkinders member was unafraid of baring his emotions in his opening Straatligkinders song – “Die Avontuur van ‘n Hartbreek” – as well as follow-up songs “Vir Altyd” and “Genade”. Humble Jokes were offered to the audience as Bosch prepared to “ruin one of his favorite songs” – a cover of The Civil Wars’ “Poison & Wine”. He did not succeed.

The night was filled to the brim with the tangible reality, humble content and rusty soul brought forward by Bosch’s compelling piano and guitar– and there was no doubt that he left this Puma Real Music Wednesday with at least a dozen more soldiers of light on board. In closing Bosch thanked the audience for “putting up with him”. Still, after having delivered a spectrum of transcendent feelings through his songs, it was clear that Bosch’s mantra of “Liefde Wen” is apt.
