Arno Carstens recently pulled in to join the Heather Waters Benefit-Gala line-up together with the Delta-Four band, saxophonists Gerald and Mari and Heather Waters herself. The event is scheduled to take place at Hudson’s on Vredenheim Wine Estate, near Spier on the 30th of August.
The benefit concert is in aid of British-born folk songstress and humanitarian Heather Waters, who was recently diagnosed with acute peripheral neuropathy – a severe degenerative condition, which directly effects the general functioning of the nerves in ones legs and feet.
Earlier this year, Waters started experiencing an extreme burning sensation in her feet, within a few weeks her condition had deteriorated to such an extent that she was completely unable to walk. After months of being confined to a wheelchair, countless medical tests, referrals and re-referrals she was diagnosed with acute peripheral neuropathy. Due to the complexity of her condition further tests are required to determine the appropriate treatment.
As a result of this recent setback there has been a delay in the official release of Waters’ latest album, including her single, “ironically entitled, Keep Walking.”
“The past months have been an uphill battle against sleepless nights, constant excruciating pain and moments of utter desperation in wanting to know what exactly was wrong with me,” Waters told Rolling Stone.
“It feels incredibly surreal as to imagine that this is not entirely curable, but the unbelievable support of my friends, family and even complete strangers, has been carrying both myself and my husband through this. We remain positive that with the correct medication, a possible operation, and focus on lifestyle I will be able to walk again soon. Our lives have changed considerably, but we have so much to be grateful for and we are adapting best we can.”
