He’s left the Scorpions in the dust, done the twist with Uma Thurman and swapped faces with Nicolas Cage. Now, John Travolta is eyeing an epic face off with James Bond.
In a new interview with The Telegraph, the 59-year-old actor says he would love to play the villain in the next installment of the 007 series, adding, “They’re going a different way with their villain in this next film. I’ve spoken to [producer] Barbara Broccoli about it and she loves the idea, so that would be great.” At present, there’s no official word on whether Travolta already has the role or if he’s even in the running.
Travolta has taken on a handful of grittier roles in the past few years, including a turn as a hi-jacker in The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 and a corrupt DEA agent in Savages. He’s also slated to portray the notorious mobster John Gotti Sr. in the upcoming biopic, Gotti: In the Shadow of My Father. Still, two-time Oscar nominee says he won’t “close the chapter on playing villains” until he gets the chance to square off with Bond.
The 24th Bond film will follow-up 2012’s Skyfall and is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on November 6th, 2015. The movie will reunite director Sam Mendes with star Daniel Craig, who will return as the British secret agent.
