Today sees the launch of The Boesman Project in conjunction with CEASEFIRE, a Gang Mediation group based in Hanover Park at the District 6 Museum in Cape Town.
Since the release of The Boesman Project’s first video for the single “The Good and The Bad”, the video has gone viral with more than 44 000 Youtube hits in 4 days. The video was directed and shot by The Boesman Project’s main man Krik Krotz and highlights gang culture and some of the events that took place in Cape Town over the past 20 years that perpetuated it.
“Growing up in Mitchell’s Plain is no joke. Life in our ghettos is all about the daily struggle of life or death. But despite this, my fondest memories come from living in the Plain. Hence, the song based on my relationship with the Good and the Bad of the Cape Flats”, Krotz told Rolling Stone.
The launch takes place at the District 6 Museum this evening from 5 to 7pm and Cape Town’s newly appointed City Manager Priya Reddy will also be in attendance. The Boesman Project will perform for the first time ever – featuring collaborations with Dludlu, Vicky Samson and Ready D. Curator for the District 6 Museum, Joe Schaffers will also address the media contingent on how gang culture started and how it persists.
