“Dirt” is the first single from Brett Newski’s upcoming 2nd album, American Folk Armageddon, that’s to be released later this year by Milwaukee, WI record label.
“The song was written in Saigon, Vietnam after several months of solo travel around Asia”, Newski told Rolling Stone. “I had been driving a motorbike up the entire country of Vietnam and caught bronchitis from all the truck fumes. I found myself laying in a bed for two weeks in a northern Thailand hut, very sick. I had no one to talk to except the local alternative medicine lady. I started to get in my own head and began to lose it a bit, so I wrote the song to cope with all the anxiety going on.”
Newski also noted that he wanted the video to be frantic, hectic, delusional at times. They shot the footage in an hour at a studio in Iowa, USA. “It’s working to capture the battle in one’s own head, but staying optimistic about pulling through,” said Newski.
