Last Week’s Puma Social Real Music Wednesday featured an artist – Andy Lund – who fits comfortably into the “acoustic” setup of the @Union environment.

Crossfire Collision are different animals, so to speak. The band comprises members of Cape Town trash-punk outfits AB Turbo, Doppler Effect, LP Show and Genitalia… and those names could say a lot about how (and to whom) these musos are used to playing.

But you’d also be very wrong in assuming that it’s all they know. The band proclaims to Rolling Stone that it became important for them to be able to vary the look and feel of their songs according to the requirements of the venue. And they do so with aplomb, even channeling The Eagles’ guitar work midway through the set (according to at least one of our party).

What would normally be a thrashy, trashy pop punk riot on electrics, turns out to be an energetic but affecting set of highly singable, affable pop songs, smartly crafted and tightly performed. Who knew?
