From the first few seconds, Ross Dorkin’s simplified bassline declares that with their new offering Beatenberg opted for the less-is-more model. The lyrics are simple, which in turn places more emphasis on Matthew Field’s vocals – and phrasing that is slightly Sting-esque. What Beatenberg have essentially created here is a new-age ballad where their lyrical echoing is made manifest during production through the delicate layering of Matthew’s vocals, rounded off by a concluding run of scats that tip and pitch into an effortless falsetto.
